Kalmarsund complete perfect quarter-final record
FBC Kalmarsund completed a remarkable Champions Cup quarter-final against Koovee with a second consecutive 12–0 victory, this time in the return leg in Tampere. The Swedish side therefore take maximum points from the two-match tie, winning both games and finishing with an extraordinary 24 goals scored and none conceded. The result confirmed Kalmarsund as the first women’s team through to the Northern Conference semi-finals.
Kalmarsund’s first-leg performance had already showcased the quality of their attacking unit, with Karolina Klubalová scoring four goals and adding four assists, while Ellen Bäckstedt registered 2+4 and Ellen Rasmussen 3+1. Rasmussen’s debut was particularly impressive, with the new Kalmarsund signing contributing to four goals in her first competitive appearance for the club. The second 12–0 victory underlines just how dominant Kalmarsund were across the tie, as Koovee were unable to score in either match. With six points from six available, Kalmarsund now move on to the semi-finals with significant momentum and are the team to watch from this moment on in the Champions Cup for sure.
Thorengruppen survive late scare to eliminate debutants EräViikingit
Thorengruppen IBK secured their spot in the Champions Cup semi-finals after a tense 4-3 victory over EräViikingit. Carrying a 2-1 aggregate lead from the first leg, the Swedish champions were tested throughout the match by the Finnish Cup winners, who were making their debut in the Women’s Champions Cup.
The match began with high intensity as Veera Lokka gave the visitors an early lead at 06:58. Thorengruppen responded quickly through Mia Østerbø Nilsen to level the score before the first intermission. The Swedes then gained momentum in the second period, with Oona Kauppi and Suvi Hämäläinen finding the net to establish a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.
The third period turned into a frantic tactical battle as EräViikingit fought to stay in the tie. Ella Sundström narrowed the gap to 3-2, but Suvi Hämäläinen struck again to restore the two-goal cushion. Despite a late goal from Iina Latvala and a power play opportunity following a penalty to Maja Viström, the Swedish defense held firm to close out the match.
The result confirms Thorengruppen’s progression to the next round, though EräViikingit leaves the tournament with their heads held high. The Finnish side proved they could compete with the continent’s elite, pushing the reigning Swedish champions to the limit in both legs of this competitive quarter-final tie.
Nokian KRP hold Falun to secure semi-final place
Nokian KRP secured their place in the Northern Conference semi-finals after playing out a 2–2 draw with IBF Falun in the second leg in Nokia. The Finnish champions had already taken a valuable 5–4 victory in the opening match in Falun, meaning they finished the quarter-final with four points to Falun’s one under the Champions Cup’s three-points-for-a-win, one-for-a-draw system.
Falun opened the scoring in the second period before Valtteri Viitakoski brought Nokian level. Adam Zubek then put the home side in front with the quickest reactions on the rebound shot, but Falun found the equaliser to make it 2–2 and set up a tense finish. The Swedish side needed a victory to take the tie to extra time and pushed hard in the closing stages, including with an extra attacker, but Nokian’s defence held firm. The draw was enough for Nokian KRP to progress, continuing an impressive start to the 2026/2027 season for the newly crowned Finnish champions. They now await a new opponent in the semi-final, from which they hope to do better than last time in 2025 where they lost to Florbal MB.
Storvreta fight back to eliminate SPV
Storvreta IBK secured their place in the Northern Conference semi-finals after a dramatic 3–3 draw with SPV at IFU Arena in Uppsala. The reigning Champions Cup winners had taken a narrow 2–1 victory from the first leg in Seinäjoki, meaning the draw was enough to send Storvreta through with four points from the two matches, while SPV finished with one point.
SPV looked to have turned the tie on its head when Riku Hakanen opened the scoring and Aaro Tammiranta doubled the Finnish side’s advantage in the second period. Storvreta pulled one back before Janne Autio restored SPV’s two-goal lead at 3–1 in the third period. The home side refused to give up, however, reducing the deficit before Hampus Nydenfeldt found the equaliser with just two minutes remaining, scoring with Storvreta playing six against five. The late comeback secured the 3–3 draw and, crucially, the point Storvreta needed to progress. SPV’s impressive performance ultimately fell just short, as their Champions Cup campaign ends at the quarter-final stage. The defending champions Storvreta fly onto the semi-finals as they await either Nokian KRP or one of the qualified Southern Conference teams.
Southern Conference is next up! 4 men’s and 4 women’s teams will battle it out for the remaining semi-final places as the very best clubs from Switzerland and Czechia take the stage in September, starting on Tuesday, September 22nd with Zug United vs Bulldogs Brno in the Women’s competition, before the rest of the round 1 matches are played on Wednesday, September 23rd.
