IFF CB holds fifth meeting of 2025: new competition structure, committees, and new IFF Youth Camp discussed

The IFF Central Board convened for its fifth meeting of the year last weekend in Helsinki, Finland. The agenda featured discussions on the new competition structure and four-year cycle, the launch of brand new committees, and the development of the new IFF Youth Camp in collaboration with Eerikkilä. The CB is scheduled to meet again in December during the World Floorball Championships in Czechia.

Start of the new committee structure

Central board discussed very positive reaction from member federations.  The committees now consists of in total of 167 individuals representing 44 IFF Member Associations. The onboarding meeting took place on September 24th, attracting over 140 committee members, making it the largest meeting in IFF history. Participants shared valuable feedback on the sport.

Most of the committees have already held their initial introductory meetings or have scheduled their first meeting during November. The plan is for the committees to meet regularly, approximately once a month, to address the tasks outlined in the Committee Guidelines and to prepare the necessary documents for the CB in line with the Yearly Plan.

Some committees will need to gather information from member federations, so the CB will assess what will be the most effective way to collect it.

Continuation of work on new IFF competition system

The IFF organized an information meeting for all National Associations on October 21, 2025, where updates on the international calendar changes were presented. The meeting saw strong participation from various countries. National Associations were given the opportunity to submit questions about the new system until the end of October.

The Calendar Working Group (CWG) has been thoroughly preparing a comprehensive proposal for the new IFF competition system. The CWG has also conducted an in-depth analysis to determine the optimal timing for the main event within the new four-year system. Based on this analysis, they recommend scheduling the main event for the second and third weekends in November, as this presents the best option.

During their workshop over the weekend, the CB addressed this topic and agreed that starting from 2029 both the World Floorball Championships (WFC) and the European Championships be held in November, while leaving the timing for other Continental Championships open. The positive experiences from the WFC 2022 that was held in November also speak for the fact that WFC could be at this time.

First IFF youth camp in June 2026

The IFF Youth Camp is an exciting new event designed for young players aged 13-15 and coaches from various countries, focusing on modern floorball techniques and strategies, created by the IFF together with the Eerikkilä Sport Institute, which is the official training center for the Finnish Floorball Federation.

The camp aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the game while providing a competitive environment for players to challenge themselves and gain valuable insights. Additionally, it fosters international networking among junior players and coaches, allowing them to build connections and share resources to promote the growth of floorball in their home countries.

During the IFF Youth Camp, players and coaches will be organised into teams that consist of 2-3 field players aged 13-15 from various countries, along with one coach per country. Each team will have three coaches and at least 6-8 goalkeepers. The camp will feature training sessions led by experts from IFF and the Eerikkilä Sports Institute, focusing on modern floorball techniques. Participants will engage in 5 vs. 5 games and other match formats, alongside technical tests and supplementary activities tailored to their skill levels. Coaches will receive specialised education integrated into the camp schedule, following IFF and Eerikkilä curriculums.

The event is set for summer or another suitable time, fostering international collaboration and networking, with English as the language of instruction, requiring participants to have basic English skills. The invitation for the IFF Youth Camp will be sent out in the later part of November. The IFF Youth Camp is planned to be held in July 2026.

IFF Rules of the Game 2026 edition

In October and November 2025, the reference group will assess the feedback and present the final proposal for the new Rules of the Game. The IFF CB will make the final decision in December, following the proposal from the Rules Committee, after which the updated IFF Rules of the Game will be distributed to all Member Associations. In January and February 2026, the Rules group will organize informational seminars for teams to discuss the interpretations of the new Rules of the Game.

The new edition of the IFF Rules of the Game will officially take effect on July 1, 2026.
