3v3 WFC 2026 Day 1

It was a historic Day 1 of the 3v3 World Floorball Championships in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Spain as 49 teams from 6 continents took part in the largest IFF tournament ever in one location. Nations such as Singapore, Solomon Islands, Cameroon & Brazil made their 3v3 Floorball debut in international competition with Cameroon, Singapore and Brazil grabbing victories on Day 1.

Sweden Women started off strong and are looking the team to beat in Spain in the Women’s competition as their star studded roster finished Day 1 with a perfect victory record. Filled with World Champions from the Adult World Championships, names such as Maja Vistrom, Ellen Rasmussen & Lisa Carlsson shone bright in the Spanish heat and now will certainly have a target on their back for the rest of the tournament. Defending champs Switzerland had a tough, back and forth match with hosts Spain where they narrowly came out on top but couldn’t overcome stubborn Slovakia who held the Swiss to a 1-1 draw later in the day. In the other groups Latvia and Poland had strong starts to their group campaign with 2 wins from 2 on Day 1 to top their groups.

On the men’s side the day kicked off with a capacity crowd cheering on home side Spain in huge victory over Colombia alongside a late day victory over Hungary which was of the feistiest, heated matchups on Day 1. And despite a draw with Italy, the Spanish hosts are top of their group. Finland also top their group with 3 strong victories on Day 1. 2024 Men’s champions Latvia look to put their disappointing 2025 finish behind them and have started the 2026 tournament perfectly with 3 wins including a tight victory over Andreas Stefansson’s Iceland who as the nation competing here in Spain with the smallest population (under 400,000) are performing far beyond above expectations as one of the smallest countries in World Floorball. The Icelanders find themselves in 2nd place behind Latvia after a big win against runners-up last year, Ukraine.

With a packed crowd throughout the day, teams such as Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Thailand having extra support for their matches in the venues the players certainly felt motivated to battle through the heat and give it their all on the smaller field.
