Following the success of The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, floorball is confirmed to return to the world’s premier multi-sport event. The countdown to Karlsruhe 2029 begins today.
The International World Games Association (IWGA) has officially confirmed the sports programme for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany. Floorball is once again set to be a featured sport at the event, which will take place from 19th to 29th July 2029. This selection marks the fourth time floorball has been included as an official sport, building on the momentum of a highly successful tournament in Chengdu and further cementing its position as a key discipline within the IWGA movement.
Reflecting on the announcement and the journey ahead, the IFF President Filip Šuman commented:
– Being included in the Karlsruhe 2029 sports programme is a significant achievement. The World Games become more important with every edition, and for the international growth of floorball, they are absolutely crucial. Chengdu 2025 was organised at an Olympic level, and for our athletes, it was the experience of a lifetime. Crucially, more and more countries are starting to support their World Games teams, meaning floorball can gain the vital backing required to compete at this level. This support is not guaranteed; in most countries, our sport has had to fight hard to earn it. I know that many of our federations are already pushing hard for this recognition. For the entire sport of floorball, we can now officially launch our three-year ‘Road to Karlsruhe’ project, with the goal of making floorball the most successful and engaging sport at the Games.
The World Games 2029 will bring together approximately 4,000 athletes from over 100 countries, competing across 36 sports and 62 disciplines. Being part of such a diverse and high-profile programme offers the floorball community a unique opportunity to showcase the speed and tactical intensity of our sport to a truly worldwide audience. As the world’s top nations begin to turn their attention to Germany, the competition is set to be as fierce as ever. Sweden heads into this cycle as the defending champions on the men’s side, while Finland holds the title on the women’s side—both nations will be looking to defend their status as the sport continues to evolve on the global stage.
