The IFF is pleased to see further research and work to diminish the severity and impact of Concussions in floorball. CT Head Impact Tracker has reaffirmed its commitment to making floorball safer and healthier for athletes by partnering with equipment makers and the wider floorball community to track, manage and reduce exposure to potentially harmful head impacts, blows and jolts, and to support events recognition.

Impacts, blows, and jolts to the head—events that cause rapid head acceleration and deceleration—can result in traumatic brain injury (TBI), including concussion. Repetitive events are linked to degenerative brain diseases such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and associations with other neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are under active investigation. Because effective treatments are limited, prevention and early recognition remain critical.
ACT Head Impact Tracker’s approach focuses on reducing three dimensions of risk:
1. the number of events (impacts, blows and jolts on a head),
2. the magnitude in these events, and
3. the frequency and clustering of these events over time.
Measuring exposure and supporting decisions
ACT Head Impact Tracker measures and tracks head kinematics (linear and angular accelerations and decelerations) in impacts, blows and jolts on a head to support hazardous-event recognition, tracking and management of cumulative load (so-called brain load) throughout training and competition across all player pathway. The system is designed to complement, not replace, clinical judgment and established concussion protocols.
Concussion recognition and return-to-sport
When medically trained personnel are not available at the sidelines, widely used tools—such as the Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool (British Journal of Sports Medicine)—can assist with recognising possible concussion and guiding removal-from-play for medical evaluation. Return-to-sport must always be gradual and supervised by a healthcare professional responsible for diagnosis and after-care; example stepwise strategies are available from reputable injury-prevention organisations.

Intelligent-ready headwear is rushing into floorball
- WALL: Development of intelligence-ready goalie masks compatible with ACT Head Impact Tracker head sensor and head sensor Pro, is underway and planned to be available during the 2025–2026 season already.
- Oxdog is also working on new intelligent-ready goalie masks.
- The company behind lujakunto.com, lujakunto.fi and salibandykauppa.fiis developing lightly padded player headbands compatible with ACT Head Impact Tracker head sensor and head sensor Pro. Availability is targeted for late October 2025.
