Finland triumphed over Sweden 4-3 in overtime in the U19 World Floorball Championships 2026 final. Finnish captain Jenna Potinoja scored the decisive golden goal.
Elsa Holopainen opened the scoring in the final just five minutes in. Ida Hultsved levelled the scores around ten minutes later, and the match continued in a similar vein – both teams had chances to score more and they kept pushing. In the second period, Finland went on the powerplay, and Venla Siirila put Finland 2-1 ahead. Sweden equalised in the third period and then took the lead with two goals from Jonna Lindgren. Finland, however, refused to give up and pulled their goalkeeper towards the end. Vilja Kuutniemi scored the equaliser at 59:10, forcing the match into overtime. Overtime lasted for nearly six minutes before Finnish captain Jenna Potinoja found the back of the net, sparking Finnish celebrations. Finland are now the Women’s U19 World Champions for the third time, having previously won in 2012 in Nitra and in 2021 in Uppsala.
Czechia secured the bronze medal after a closely fought match against Switzerland. The bronze medal was only decided in a penalty shootout that proved nerve-wracking for both sides, but particularly for Switzerland. Lucie Svajcrova and Denisa Vyborna successfully converted their penalties, securing Czechia’s third place, a repeat of their performance in Lahti in 2024. It’s worth highlighting the goalkeepers from this game, Katerina Vrlova (CZE) and Aline Joye (SUI), who made several crucial saves for their respective teams throughout the match.
Denmark claimed 7th place after a resounding 7-0 victory over Latvia, while Germany achieved a similar result against Poland in the 9th place game.
