Singapore to host the Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships 2028!

Singapore has been selected to host the Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships in 2028, marking an important milestone for the continued development of floorball in Asia and providing a major international stage for the sport’s next generation as 2028 will mark the first time the junior World Floorball Championships will be held in Asia for either Men or Women!

The decision brings the world’s premier Men’s junior floorball championship to Singapore, following the country’s growing involvement in international floorball and its successful development of the men’s U19 programme, including them recently qualifying again for the Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships 2027 in Latvia.

For the International Floorball Federation (IFF), awarding the event to Singapore represents another significant step in its long-term strategy to strengthen the sport across the Asian region.

IFF President Filip Suman said:

I am pleased that we can entrust the 2028 Men’s U19 World Floorball Championship to Singapore. The development of floorball in the Asian region is a long-term strategic priority for the IFF, and this event represents another crucial step in strengthening it. The junior championship is always exceptional because it is here that we can first witness the birth of the future stars of our sport at the highest level. I look forward to the inspiring performances that the 2028 tournament will undoubtedly bring.

The announcement comes at an exciting time for Singaporean floorball. The country’s men’s U19 national team recently secured qualification for the 2027 Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships in Latvia, giving the next generation of Singaporean players the opportunity to compete on the world stage before returning home to host the championship in 2028.

The Singapore Men’s U19 team will be playing in back to back Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships after qualifying for the 2027 event at home earlier this month.

For the Singapore Floorball Association, hosting the event represents both recognition of the progress already made and an opportunity to accelerate the sport’s development.

Singapore Floorball Association President Ben Ow said:

“Hosting the 2028 Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships is a significant milestone for Singapore floorball. We have seen the impact that major international events can have on the sport here, and to now welcome the world’s best young players to Singapore is another important step in our development. It is especially meaningful following our U19 men’s recent qualification for the 2027 World Championships in Latvia. For our young players, coaches and the wider floorball community, having a world championship on home soil gives us something tangible to build towards and an opportunity to showcase how far the sport has come in Singapore. We hope the tournament will not only deliver high-level competition, but also inspire more young people to take up floorball and see a pathway for themselves in the sport.”

The Men’s U19 World Floorball Championships have traditionally provided a first glimpse of the players who go on to become the leading stars of international floorball. Bringing the event to Singapore will therefore offer young players from across the world the chance to compete at the highest junior level while introducing the Junior World Championships to one of World Floorball’s fastest growing regions, Asia.

With the host now confirmed, preparations can begin for what promises to be a landmark event for Singaporean floorball and another important chapter in the IFF’s efforts to expand the global reach of the sport.
