Latvia powers past Philippines with 12–2 win in Group A clash
Latvia bounced back in style at The World Games 2025, securing a dominant 12–2 victory over tournament debutants Philippines in front of 798 spectators in Chengdu.
After a tight first period that ended 2–1, Latvia turned up the intensity in the second, scoring four unanswered goals to take firm control of the match. The Latvian offense came alive through crisp ball movement, physical presence, and accurate finishing.
Ralfs Matīss Balodis and Daniels Jānis Anis led the way with a hat trick and one assist, while Gustavs Griezītis and Krišjānis Tiltins (both 2+1) also played key roles in Latvia’s offensive surge.
The Philippines showed flashes of their potential, with Simon Sicat Laraño and Melvin Alm Mendoza both scoring – marking a historic moment as the nation’s first-ever goals at The World Games. Despite the loss, the team showed fight and resilience against a more experienced opponent.

Sweden overpowers Switzerland with dominant 8–1 victory
Defending champions Sweden underlined their title credentials at The World Games 2025 with a commanding 8–1 win over Switzerland in front of 926 spectators.
The Swedes opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Malte Lundmark on a powerplay and doubled the lead five minutes later with a goal from Linus Holmgren, assisted by Filip Eriksson. Despite a Swiss response on the powerplay by Marco Louis (assisted by Jan Zaugg), Sweden’s grip on the match never loosened.
Later in the second period, Lundmark struck again, followed by goals from Filip Wramdemark and Sakarias Ulriksson to stretch the lead to 5–1. Switzerland struggled to keep up with Sweden’s speed and passing precision.
The third period saw Sweden continue their relentless attack, adding three more goals. Oskar Weissbach, Lundmark with his third point of the game, and another from Ulriksson into the empty net capped off a clinical performance.

Switzerland defeats Slovakia 8–2 to remain unbeaten in Group A
Switzerland delivered another confident performance, defeating Slovakia 8–2 in front of 765 spectators and strengthening their position in Group A.
The Swiss team came out strong, with Norina Reusser and Anja Wyss each scoring once in the first period. Switzerland was able to control possession and capitalize on key moments.
Switzerland led 2–0 after the first period and extended it to 4–1 in the second thanks to precise finishing from Seraina Fitzi and Celine Stettler. In the last period Wyss added two more goals for the Swiss side, Reusser added one and Laila Ediz found the back of the empty net.
Slovakia showed grit and pulled one back through Lenka Cervená, and Paulína Hudáková added a second with a late powerplay goal, but it was not enough to shift the game’s momentum.
