Sweden dominant in opener, overwhelms Thailand 21–2

Sweden delivered a commanding performance on the opening day of the women’s floorball competition at The World Games 2025, defeating Thailand 21–2.

Right from the first whistle, the Swedes took control of the game, scoring three goals in the opening three minutes and building a 6–1 lead before the first intermission. Wilma Johansson opened the scoring and went on to tally four goals and three assists, leading the Swedish offense.

Mira Markström also impressed with a hat trick and two assists, while Moa Andersson contributed two goals in quick succession during the third period. In total, 10 different Swedish players found the back of the net.

Thailand, to their credit, fought hard and were rewarded with two goals from Rungnapa Kebsamrong, providing moments of celebration for the Southeast Asian side.

Sweden’s relentless pressure, swift passing, and clinical finishing left little doubt about their ambitions at these Games, sending a clear message to their future opponents.

Finland cruises to emphatic 36–0 win over Canada in Group B

Finland delivered another statement of dominance in the women’s floorball competition, overwhelming Canada 36–0 in their Group B opener.

The Finnish side wasted no time, opening the scoring just over a minute into the game and netting three goals within the first two minutes. From that moment on, the scoring never stopped.

Superstar Veera Kauppi was at the heart of Finland’s offense, scoring seven goals and assisting on multiple others. Her sister, Oona Kauppi, added four goals and five assists, while Suvi Hämäläinen (3+4), Ulla Valtola (4 goals), and Sofia Mittentag (3+3) also stood out with multi-point performances.

Finland’s pace, precision passing, and sharp finishing left Canada unable to gain any foothold in the match. Goaltender Julia Saarinen earned the shutout behind a nearly impenetrable defense.

The result underscores Finland’s status as one of the gold medal favorites in Chengdu.

Czechia shuts out Singapore 21–0 in commanding Group B performance

Czechia continued their strong start at The World Games 2025 with a comprehensive 21–0 victory over Singapore in Group B, demonstrating depth, discipline, and attacking variety throughout the match.

The tone was set early, with three goals inside the first six minutes. Czechia built a 6–0 lead after the opening period and never looked back. Their aggressive forechecking and high-pressure play prevented Singapore from gaining possession or territory for extended periods.

Vanessa Rebecca Keprtová was the standout performer, recording five goals and four assists, playing a key role in orchestrating much of Czechia’s offense. Michaela Mechlová (3+2), Anna Brucháčková (2+2), and Nela Jiráková (2+2) were also among the top contributors in the one-sided affair.

Singapore fought valiantly throughout but couldn’t break through the Czech defensive lines. Despite the scoreline, the team showed spirit, particularly in the third period where they tightened their defense and pushed for a consolation goal.
