The IFF Men’s World Floorball Championships 2024 (WFC 2024), held in Malmö, Sweden, marked a milestone not only in global reach but also in sustainability. The evaluation report on WFC 2024 also demonstrates a strong performance across economic and media impacts.
The WFC 2024 was the first floorball event certified as a Sustainable Event by Greentime. Sustainability initiatives included refill stations throughout arenas to reduce bottled water use, integrated public transport options and educational activations aligned with local sustainability goals. The Little World Championships (Lilla VM) project, which culminated in hosting 14,000 schoolchildren at the event, further contributed to community engagement and youth participation.
Media reach of the tournament was bolstered by 37 TV broadcasters across 45 territories and the cumulative TV audience was 6.9 million, while digital engagement remained high with 8.3 million impressions and close to 0.3 million engagements on IFF platforms alone.
Despite a 43% decrease in the in-person attendance when compared with 2022, the WFC 2024 delivered substantial value in other areas, including:
- €7.7 million in direct economic impact, boosted by the large representation of out-of-town visitors.
- SEK 3.3 million (€0.3 million) profit for local organisers, with ticketing and sponsorship revenues both exceeding targets.
- 32,190 bed nights generated, demonstrating strong tourism appeal for the host city, Malmö.
The report was produced by Quantum Consultancy which continues to provide strategic evaluation services to the IFF as part of a long-term agreement, helping measure progress towards goals within the IFF Strategy 2021-2032.
– The assessment of WFC 2024 marked the completion of a four-year evaluation cycle led by our team for the IFF. The results highlight the continued growth and development of the IFF’s flagship event, with WFC 2024 surpassing all previous records for visitor expenditure and overall economic impact. It also achieved positive results in terms of TV and social media exposure, setting a high benchmark for future organisers, says Krzystof Kropielnicki from Quantum Consultancy.
